Welcome to the 5th session’s first newsletter!

This session, we started with very exciting genres and quests. For genre, we started the Short Story genre, where we learn to better understand the world around us and convey the things we learn in a way that helps others.

On Monday, we researched and thought about what it means to want to be a writer and to want to write. Which may seem like an easy question to answer, but truly exposes how you see the world and the nature of the people in it.

Tuesday, we began practicing writing short stories by writing about our week so far twice, first in our favorite book genre, then in our second favorite genre.

Friday, we will continue our work in short stories, this time focusing on narrative styles like first, second, and third person.

In Quest, we began our journey learning a new language, Spanish. Through Rocket Language, an online course, we spent about an hour and a half each day learning Spanish. From the different countries in the world to basic phrases, in such a short amount of time, I could say we have all learned so much already.

We also practiced with each other as a group, dedicating time to only speaking in Spanish. Though it was a little bit embarrassing at first, after the first five minutes, we all lost that feeling and tried our best to communicate.

For Civ, we started by studying the French Revolution. We researched what it meant to be a citizen during the French Monarchy, the “Reign of Terror”, and the establishment of the French Republic. We also learned how brutal and scary at times the French Revolution was to both nobility and commoners.

Next week we have our NGA talk. We spent this week making our final preparations for the event, and I know that I am both really excited and nervous for it.

Thanks for reading, and hope to see you next week!
