Welcome to the last week of the third session’s Launchpad newsletter!!
On Monday, we opened the week with a much-anticipated visit to Tevaland! As part of our Biology quest, we were challenged to choose one animal and learn about it. Instead of the traditional dissecting, we had the privilege to meet this animal in person in Tevaland and explore it in person. Visiting Tevaland is always a pleasure; this one was even prettier in the snow. We worked with the bunnies, we met the new rescue: a baby goat, and we visited the cows, the horses, and the llamas. Based on everything we learned, we created a presentation about our animal and shared it with Discovery and Sparks. You can see photos from the visit and the presentations in the weekly folder.
This week in Genre was spent adding the finishing touches to our biology hero biographies to prepare for the upcoming exhibition! We went through the revision, editing, and greenlighting (the final step in writing, where our biography is declared excellent by another Launchpadder) processes, which improved our biographies. We can’t wait to share them during the exhibition!
This week, in Quest, we moved on to the last biology category we will learn about in this session: humans. During this time, we learned about the human genome, extracted DNA from strawberries, and discussed designer babies, an ethical dilemma centered around the question, ‘Is it moral to modify human embryos genetically?’ We also wrote our scripts and designed our posters for our biology experiments, which will be shared in the exhibition.
We ended the week by compiling our badges, which meant putting all of the work we had completed throughout this session into one document. Our badges demonstrate the hard work and effort we put into our daily challenges and showcase everything we have learned during the session. Compiling badges takes a lot of work and can be pretty time-consuming, but in the end, it is very fulfilling to look back on everything we have accomplished throughout the session.
Overall, this was a very exciting, busy week in the Launchpad studio. It was full of hard work and effort, which hopefully paid off (you’ll find out for yourself in the exhibition). Thanks for reading!!
