Finally! Podcasts have been completed, and Journey took an exciting field trip. Here are the details:
#1 - Patient interviews and Occam’s Razor? Exhibition final prep! As the session nears its last corner, Journey learners prepare for the exhibition and finalize their diagnosis skills. This week, each group member got a card with a disease name and a description from a game called Occam’s Razor. Then, they would create a diagnosis story, saying how and what they feel and describing activities leading to this. After that, the group would pair up with each other and use their skills and the internet to figure out what disease they had.
#2 - Podcasts? Done! Learners have finally finished what they were working towards throughout the whole session. They have gotten lots of feedback from fellow learners and recorded multiple times. All this led to their final podcast, which they are proud to say they made! Now, it is time to wait for the judges’ decision and learn who won the AABC podcast contest.
#3 - A CPR Course? An Acton experience! This week, the learners participated in a CPR course on Friday, where they practiced CPR and learned how to perform it. By the end of it, everybody is CPR-certified!
#4 - The Klingenstein Clinical Center! A field trip to a doctor's lab! This week, on Wednesday, the learners got the opportunity to go to the Klingenstein Clinical Center, a medical research lab where Sam DeMaria (a Journey learner’s dad and doctor) works. We practiced a real diagnosis on a manikin that has a code that controls its organs and feelings. We also learned how to put a breathing tube in the airway and did an ultrasound on ourselves. It was a huge learning experience! Check the weekly photos to see all the things we did there.
Next week is the last week of the session. It will be stressful but full of fun and learning! We can’t wait to tell you all about it!
