The fourth week of the session ended, and the learners learned even more about medicine and got responses from their apprenticeships! Here’s the details:
#1 - Full Code? A diagnosis and hospital simulation! This week, the Journey learners got to use Full Code, a diagnosis and hospital online learning tool that simulates you as a doctor, diagnosing and treating a sick patient. The learners had so much fun with this, but also learned tons. Some got 100%, some got 0%!
#2 - Emails and responses! The next steps! After revising and getting their emails greenlit by other learners and guides, Journey learners have finally sent them to where they want to apply for an apprenticeship. Some learners got a reply and are now preparing for a phone pitch to hopefully secure their first-ever apprenticeship! Ask your Falcon if they got a response for their first email and what their plans are moving forward.
#3 - NVSA? Sports and games for all! For the past two sessions, every Wednesday, learners have the option to go to NVSA instead of regular free time. NVSA is a sports facility that offers tons of fun and physical activities. Some learners played soccer, and others volleyball, but everyone had tons of fun!
#4—Lastly, a vision-changing hero’s visit—A doctor comes to visit! As part of our Medical Biology quest and for a possible apprenticeship opportunity, Sam Demaria, a professional anesthesiologist, came for a hero’s visit. Sam shared his journey with the Falcons, explained in detail the different routes to becoming a doctor, and shared many details about his daily life as a doctor. This was a unique opportunity to hear about the medical field from a true expert and be inspired by his passion and love for his profession.
Next week, learners wrap up their apprenticeship prep badges, practice CPR, and go to the city for a field trip to Mount Sinai! We can’t wait to tell you all about it!
