Journey: Session 2, Week 2

We had an intense 2nd week in the Journey studio!

For quest, the Falcons dove into the fascinating world of cells. They spent hours researching different cell types, creating a cell diagram, and practicing their knowledge for the weekly round of Biology Bee. Each squad had to figure out the identity of a mysterious cell using clues they were given throughout the week, and on Friday, they all shared the posters they created with each other.

On Monday, each Falcon shared a short pitch about the Biology hero they chose for the Biography genre. We had learners choose so many fascinating scientists, and they were excited to get to know them better during this session. On Wednesday, the Falcons learned about primary and secondary resources and found articles they could use to learn more about the heroes they chose.

For civ, the Falcon debated why civilization rose and prospered and the interconnections between civilizations. One of the questions the learners discussed was:

Do you believe the internet makes you:

  1. More connected to the ‘real’ world by giving you access to more knowledge to better understand the world or

  2. Less connected to the ‘real’ world by creating less need for face-to-face interaction and virtual worlds to live in?

On Wednesday, the Journey studio walked to the indoor gym facility NVSA to play soccer, volleyball, and basketball. On Thursday, they had passion time for the first time this session, and it was beautiful to watch the Falcons getting immersed in their favorite activities: painting, sculpting, chess, playing instruments, and more.

Plants will be the main topic of the quest next week, and Friday will be the first Alpine day of this session!
