Discovery: Session 4, Week 1

We are more than halfway done with the school year! Session 4 has started with a BANG. We have Detective for Quest, Podcasts for Writers Workshop, and Healthy Cooking for Special! All these new projects were introduced this week! Ask your child which activity they favorite!

During one of our morning launches this week, learners discussed money and how it affects happiness. Learners shared stories related to the concept of the Hedonic Treadmill, the idea of really wanting something, and when you finally get what you want, you aren’t any happier. One learner talked about how much she wanted a bunny, and then when she finally got the bunny was more responsibility than fun. Another learner spoke about getting a toy after many years of enjoying it, but she never plays with it anymore now that she finally got it.

This may be hard for some parents to believe, but learners researched and tried many different vegetables this week during healthy cooking. Some learners tried zucchini, mushroom, peppers, and many other vegetables for the first time in their life. Many learners had a mixed reaction to how they felt about the vegetables, but many were very courageous as they tried things that they felt were very gross or scary.
